De Goey Contractors is a privately-owned company, formed in 2006. Our comprehensively equipped Paget-based facilities and highly-qualified and experienced employees are ready to meet all of your engineering needs. Our staff consists of fully certified welders, welding inspectors and specialists as well as welding coordinators, supervisors and highly trained support staff.

At DGC, quality assurance and the highest safety standards are paramount. You can be assured that our in-depth quality and safety systems are in place to safeguard all operations. With more than 140-years of combined industry experience and over 1300 projects completed, you can rest assured that with DGC, you’re in good hands.




Owner and Managing Director

Tim de Goey

I give strategic guidance and direction to our staff and research and develop new initiatives. I’m responsible for the overall management of the business, administration and tender submissions, site visits and aiding site managers in their projects. I started my career in engineering with a scholarship for a pressure welding apprenticeship at New Zealand Petrol Refinery and while studying, won New Zealand Apprentice of the Year. I took a pressure welding position with Bechtel at the Darwin LNG Project and generated a lot of work throughout Australia before settling in Mackay and building DGC. I am a qualified IIW International Welding Specialist, Certified Welding Inspector, International Welding Inspector Basic, Pressure Equipment Manufacture Supervisor, Structural Steel Manufacture Supervisor and a member of The Welding Technology Institute of Australia. I accredit DGC’s growth over the past 12 years to the commitment and quality of work by the whole team.

I am proud of our high standards and positive work culture. I have three young sons and love to spend time with my family, exploring the great outdoors. I also enjoy golf, cricket and have a small collection of pre-1970 Fords, which I love to tinker with.


Business Development Manager


I work with the company to identify improvement and growth opportunities. I’ve previously worked in senior management, project management and supervision roles and I love having the opportunity to work on improving our business whether it be in safety, quality or business growth strategy. I am trained in DuPont safety management systems as an ICAM Lead Investigator and Nace Level 1 Coating Inspector. I am also currently undertaking a Diploma in Leadership and Management.

I like how DeGoey Contractors feels like a big family. Everyone is approachable and there is always support available when needed. Whenever new opportunities arise, our staff are keen to get involved, contribute their ideas and are supported in doing so. People throughout our whole team continually go above and beyond the call of duty in an effort to achieve goals or targets and continually improve our business.
Outside of work, I enjoy playing golf and spending time with my family.


QA Coordinator/Certified Welding Inspector


I develop welding procedures, qualify and maintain welder qualifications, develop QA packages, inspect welding, maintain equipment and update policies and systems. With 20 years experience, my background is in non-destructive testing technician welding inspection and quality assurance.

I am a qualified mechanic and also hold a Level 2 in Radiography, Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle and Dye Penetrant Testing with AINDT. I am a Certified Welding Inspector and Auditor.

Married with three boys, I am also the Vice President and competition manager at Mackay Rugby Union and a Cancer Council Ambassador. I also hold a 4th degree black belt and am a Bujinkan Bud? Taijutsu (Ninjutsu) instructor.

DGC has a relaxed work atmosphere and a supportive team environment. Our staff is full of experienced, skilled tradesmen and office professionals, each very competent in providing high-quality workmanship and industry knowledge. The team works well together, each contributing to the job ensuring a well-rounded final product.


Resource Scheduler/Planner


My background is more than 20 years working in accounts and administration, including budgeting and planning/scheduling of jobs. With DGC, I schedule and coordinate jobs and maintain the roster. I also prepare quotes and estimates, liaising with clients, communicating with team members and project administration.

I like the upbeat tempo of shutdowns, scheduling work and rostering resources, accommodating the client’s needs and the location of my job.

I love that DGC is a family business. Our staff culture is relaxed, honest and fun. I also enjoy the type of work we do, the versatility of the business and how we always find a way to please and deliver to our clients. We work as a team and when the going gets tough, we all pitch in to get the job done no matter what role we have.

I grew up in Mackay and my family and I live locally. Outside of work, I enjoy boating, deep sea and creek fishing and camping, pets and spending time with family and friends.


HSEQ Advisor


I work closely with staff to provide guidance on all aspects of workplace health and safety and ensure compliance with HSEQ legislation, standards and codes of practice. I also develop and implement proactive risk management strategies and promote DGC’s commitment to safety and continuous improvement. I also coordinate training and inductions for our workforce.

I have more than nine years of experience in various safety-focussed roles with qualifications including Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, ICAM Lead Investigator and Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator.

I enjoy the diversity of my role and the learning opportunities it presents. Depending on the day, I could be writing a new procedure, conducting a risk assessment or audit or interacting closely with our work crews on the job front.

I enjoy being part of a close-knit team and like being exposed to different work environments and challenges on a regular basis. We have a supportive team culture that centres around teamwork.


Coating Division Manager

Shannon Cleary

I manage all aspects of the Protective Coatings Division including our key imperatives, safety, quality and efficiency.I have extensive experience in the surface preparation and protective coating application industry in various fields such as mining, gas, construction and port infrastructure maintenance.

I commenced working in this field in 2004 in mining shutdowns across the Bowen Basin as a blaster and painter before continuing to conduct personal development throughout the years to ensure positive career progression.

I am a NACE 3 Certified Coating inspector and have also completed the base level of welding inspection which assists me in ensuring each and every client’s specification requirements are met and exceeded. I have a passion for ensuring quality is of the highest achievable outcome and continue to research new initiatives and endorse improvement opportunities to complete these works safer and more efficiently.

I believe my other key strength is people management. I enjoy knowledge sharing with my peers and workers to ensure they have every opportunity to continually progress through the industry successfully.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time in the outdoors with my wife and children. We endeavour to go camping and fishing at every opportunity that arises and I also spend a lot of time coaching children and playing in the Local Rugby League competition.


Operations Manager (Production)

Melinda Gow

I have joined De Goey Contractors with a solid background over the past 15+ years in Structural Design & Estimating, Building Design and Rail Engineering. I hold a Bachelor of Civil Engineering Technology and Graduate Certificate in Asset Management; and as a life-long learner with a love for study, I’ve also studied a Certificate IV in Nutrition. 

Born and raised in Sydney, I moved to South-East Queensland in 2004 not long after I was married however, I’ve lived here in Mackay on and off for many years now, returning here in 2017. 

Here at De Goey Contractors, I oversee offsite operations in the production and fabrication space. My role includes workflow, personnel, and logistical functions in conjunction with a highly capable and skilled team; short and long term operational and strategic planning; and streamlining operational efficiency through continuous improvement and the use of Lean Six Sigma Methodologies. 

In my free time, I love spending time with my husband and two young children, cooking up a storm/entertaining friends and family, spending time outdoors somewhere with a beautiful view, travelling, and hitting the gym early in the morning!


Senior Estimator


Relocating from Townsville, I have joined De Goey Contractors with a diverse background in Engineering over the last 25 years. I began my Boilermaker apprenticeship in 1996, acquired my pressure ticket and followed on to travelling the country working on construction projects over the span of 10 years.

I later started an Engineering business servicing the mining and construction industry including refineries, ports and wharves, sugar mills and power stations. We specialised in pressure vessels, pipe work (mild steel, S/S, exotic metal, super duplex), steel fabrication and site installations. My role as managing director was to complete and oversee all estimating/ tendering, projects, workshop fabrication, scheduling, procurement, Quality Assurance (ISO9001 accredited) liaise with clients, and project management.

As Senior Estimator my role here is to service our clients with detailed quotations, prepare tenders and contracts, and assist with all facets of project execution.

In my free time I love fishing, camping and spending time with my family and friends.


Office Manager


I commenced work with De Goey Contractors in 2021 as Office Manager. I have worked in various types of industries and workspaces, encompassing the streams of administration, financial and personnel management, and legal compliance.  I undertook the 4am study routine as an adult learner whilst raising my family and have obtained a Bachelor or Business and Cert IV Training and Assessment. 

My mantra is to do the best I can, striving for continuous improvement for myself and my team, and to lead by example. I believe in the team as being the backbone of any business, each individual has something to offer.  I enjoy training and nurturing others so they can realise their full potential. It is a pleasure to come to work every day to work with people who share the same ideals of professional and ethical conduct, who pull together to achieve goals. It is an impressive environment.

We are so fortunate to live where we do, where opportunities to get out and about abound. I enjoy the company of my family and friends in any setting, they are the real gems of life.  I have been lucky to have travelled a bit but am not finished yet. I love immersing myself in other cultures and countries, absorbing the history and the landscapes. I also love being home, cooking new things,  walking through the rainforest, along the beach, hiking trails, and camping out.
